Chad Parenteau: Poet for Hire

The Poet for Hire Has Connections

I have links below to poetry venues and other comrades in the written and visual arts.  Email me if you'd like to suggest a link of your own or someone else's.

Stone Soup Poetry

One of the longest running poetry venues in Massachusetts, Stone Soup meets every Monday morning in Cambridge at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery.  I host nearly every week.  I have set up a home on the web here.  There is also a MySpace page.  We also have a separate web page strictly for our video.

I also edit its online journal, Spoonful.  Check out the current and past issues here.

Out of The Blue Art Gallery

For almost fifteen years, this gallery has struggled but prevailed in the Cambridge area.  It has the largest selection of local artists I've ever seen and hosts a number of spoken word and musical events, including Stone Soup Poetry.    I encourage you to do everything you can to support this gallery.  Click here to visit their main site for more info.

Poetry Venues (aside from Stone Soup)

If you're ever in New Orleans on a Thursday, stop by and check out the 17 Poets! Reading Series.

The Boston Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge has been going strong for over a decade.

Poetribe is back!

The Art of Words is a Plymouth-Based poetry venue carrying on the work of it's founder, Mike Amado.

The Speakeasy Cafe is an phone-in open mike.  Worth listening to and participating in.

Spoken Word Nantucket takes some effort to get to, but it's so worth it.

Presses

I just found out about Black Widow Press, and now I want everyone to know about them.

Ibbetson Street Press is a press headed up by Somerville-based mogul Doug Holder.

Friends

Simone Beaubien is the host and Slammaster at the Boston Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge

Some in the scene fear Michael Brown, but even they wisely choose to read his poetry.

James Conant illustrated two of my chapbook covers.  He and Cindy Williams are an artistic team who have graced the pages of the Spoonful journal and elsewhere.  Look at their product for James' stuff here and Cindy's here.

Lo Galluccio has joined the Weebly ranks.

Photographer Edward S. Gault is also active in Boston's spoken word scene.

Christine Gelineau, among many other things, is the edior of the great French Connections anthology.

Len Germinara lives on Nantucket, hosts a great reading series there, has a wonderful wife and deserves every bit of it.

Coleen Houlihan is a poet, novelist and fellow Stone Souper who introduced me to Weebly.

I am thankful to have Valerie Loveland at Stone Soup and in Massachusetts in general.

I'm proud to have Gordon Marshall as a regular at Stone Soup.

Behold the blog of Ryk McIntyre.

I'm glad Christy Merry came into Stone Soup one day to read.  I hope she comes back to feature soon.

From Philadelphia, we have G. Emil Reutter, poet, author and  venue host.

Visit the website of writing and cartooning spitfire John Linton Roberson.

David R. Surette has poetry books with real spines.  He's given me quite a few breaks over the years.

Jade Sylvan is a pretty new and very welcome addition to the Boston poetry scene.

Derek JG Williams is just setting up his website.  Keep going back to it.
